With her two best friends now happily married, she has two choices—keep on as she is and be alone the rest of her life or break out of her shell and find someone to love. Taking the advice of a co-worker, she signs up for the guardian training at the high school where she works to bolster her courage. Only problem is—he’ll be there. The one man she’s deemed too bossy and overbearing.

Travis Scott has been in love with Sophie Kennedy from the moment he laid eyes on her. Unfortunately, his plans to ask her out had to be put on hold when an opportunity for advancement in his career came along. Now that he’s been promoted to chief of the Oaktown Police Department he’s ready to move forward and make her his. But there’s a problem—she keeps running away.

Can Travis convince Sophie to give him a chance or will her intense shyness keep them apart?

Author’s note: Saving Sophie is the fourth book in my small-town romance series—Love in Oaktown. While it may be read as a standalone, the reader’s experience will be enhanced by starting with the first book in the series—Coaching Carly. This book and all the rest are written for mature audiences, so please don’t read if you’re not 18!

Crystal’s Book World Review:

3.5 Stars!!

Breakwater Lane is a great book to dive into and unlock a few mysteries along the way. This is my first book I have read by Stephanie Payne Hurt and it was different from what I have read before. I am always interested to see how authors can bring us readers a twist or two when it comes with the Romance genre. Breakwater Lane definitely has the romance with a dash of drama. What really captured me was the suspense of the book.

The main characters Jordan and Skylar were a great pair. You get the sarcasm, sassiness, and the playful side of the characters. The mutual chemistry is amazing. These two click. Their history almost blocked their future. The small town that Jordan goes back to is tight knit, but you will find some stragglers that are consumed with greed and envy.

The story line was good, there was a couple of times that I would get a little lost in the dialogue and not sure if it was written in first person or third person. This did not effect the actual story, just my brain would get stuck a time or two. All in all, I enjoyed the read and rated this book a 3.5.
